Whats with the monitor reflection on the top left? Is that on the wall or is that the lens doing something funky?

Probably the UV filter.......

I feel for you. It honestly isn't a big deal but I know I'd feel the same if it was me. If it's under warranty maybe Canon will do something about it, if not try to accept it and not let it bother you. It is easy to shop out but still, who wants to have to shop out a pixel in every picture?

There is a reported "fix" for hot pixels, although I've never used it. Some kinda rumor like it's a built-in fix for Canon servicing:

You take off the lens, screw in your lens mount cap, then go into Manual Sensor Cleaning, then turn off the camera and then run a test. Repeat if stuff still shows up.

Like I said, I've never needed to try this -- do I have it right, experienced members?

It seems like such a process should work, but I don't know if it's built in to the camera or user accessible.

1: ive been ripped off , as i paid 2000$ for the XTI

You sure did. I paid around $1100AUD for my XTi in Dec 06' (from a store which boasted an average price). That equated to around $800USD, taking into account currency conversion at the time. And gear Down Under is more expensive than in North America. What's this 'Gold Warranty' thing you bought? Oh well, hard lessons are learnt - i.e. do lots of research before you plunk down the cold hard green.

2: they requires examples and proof of failure...

Exactly and where are you gonna get it? Technically it's not a 'failure' and Canon would tell you the same thing.

3: they need to analyze the proofs and the camera.

To be honest I wouldn't bother. A few hot pixels isn't considered a 'fault'.

well, I don't expect a 2,000$ camera to fail.

Firstly, it shouldn't have been anywhere near $2000.

Secondly, $2,000 cameras still fail for various reasons. That's life, unfortunately. If you didn't expect it to fail, you should have saved yourself $300 and ditched the 'Gold Warranty'.

I've gotten ripped off before, it doesn't help when every person on a forum has to chime in "you've been ripped off." I'm guessing posting I've been ripped off is a telltale sign the OP knows they've been ripped off

You should have done more research on the camera and where you bought from. How can you not? Are you rich? It was never worth $2000 to begin with, and it comes with a warranty, even if it's short.

This has worked for me with a couple of hot pixels on my (then brand new) 40D.

Worth a try!

Well, you don't have a $2000 camera. You may have paid that for it but it is more like a $400 camera and then there's that fact that all cameras have them. If you look closely you'll see that most cameras will have up to a dozen or more.

my $10,000 dollar camera doesn't have this problem ! mine was 10k because I decided to add the costs of my other lenses, filters, bags etc while I was at (see how ridiculous it is)

I dont know why you keep harping about the fact you paid 2000 bucks for it, its nobody's fault but your own, its certinally not the stores

why dont you take the camera to them like they told you to

How long ago did you purchase the camera? I'm not sure about Quebec, but Ontario has a consumer protection act. If there's no resolution, try contacting the BBB.

Well, when i take pictures at ISO 800/1600, (and i tried it with the cap on too), There's alot of struck white pixels.

What should I do ?

1: ive been ripped off , as i paid 2000$ for the XTI

2: they requires examples and proof of failure...

3: they need to analyze the proofs and the camera.

This is REALLY starting to PIS* ME OFF

I bought my XTi new in Montreal in late 2007. I got the body, kit lens, Extreme III 2.0, a spare battery and a bag, and even with the taxes I still paid well under $1000.

If I were you, I'd tell your supplier that you're thinking seriously of contacting Consumer Protection and possibly even the newspaper. You were vastly overcharged, you bought an equally overpriced extended warranty, and now they're jerking you around when you ask for service? Turn the screws a bit. You've paid for the privilege of good service. If they don't oblige, contact the Ombudsman. I don't know if Le Soleil does this, but La Presse in Montreal has a consumer section on Sundays that will investigate this kind of thing (overcharging, refusal of service, etc.).

I also like the fact OP expected there should be zero issues on a $2000 (inflated) camera but at the same time they bought piece of $300 paper with a sticker of a GOLD star. I am still @ a lost on how you can pay that much!

Oh Hai!
