I noticed that a new 5D mkI is around 2,100 while mkII is around 2,700. There isn't much of a difference, so will they drop the price on the mark I when mark II releases? Or will they discontinue it (gulp!) I am waiting for a good time to buy a mark I new or used, but am waiting to see if it will be dropping even more.

Should I wait? Will they stop making them?

I assume that there won't be any new 5D MK1s once the MKII is available. Canon is only selling off their old inventory right now.

I checked with my local store (Samy's) and they said that 5d is discontinued.

This was to be expected. Why keep producing the 5D? Look on the bright side. There will be plenty of used 5D's on the market for years to come and Canon will continue to service them for a long time.

5D will be discontinued. And 5D Mk II will probably increase in price.

I think the 5D has been discontinued. I don't believe that the MKII price will increase at all, typically release prices are as high as they go.

The 5DII will only start dropping in price once the sales starts to decline. I don't see that happening for a while. Might be a nice rebate sometime before christmas or early next year, but if it's really heavily backordered, then there might not be anything for a while.

If you want a 5D, you need to search the marketplace or eBay... but I'm sure there are some stores with new-old stock.

Canon has already ran several offers on the 5D.

Typically the remaining 5Ds will be crushed and put into landfill. An odd few will survive on dealer's shelves, but there comes a point to right these off and destroy them, it's more cash to them than selling when the price lowers and demand drops off.

buy one used around the middle of december. people will have just picked their mark ii's up, or will be about to buy one, or will desperately need some extra cash for last minute christmas gifts. I think that will be about the best time to pick up a used mark i....that's my goal to pick up my next body anyway which I won't name here lest I be labeled a traitor :p

give it about a month-and-a-half and prices for a mark i will be lookin' very good me thinks :D

My camera retailer here shows the 5D as unable to be ordered from the distributor which means what's left is just the stock they have.

I think they will probably have some stock left for a while (I HOPE) because we are still able to buy new 30D's and Rebel xt's so hopefully canon still has alot of back stock 5Ds to sell...

Exactly, if they are still setting the 30D, hopefully they will still be selling MKI? It is such a popular camera for those who do not want the video option.

I hope that the price of the used don't go up around Christmas since people will be willing to buy them. I hope it does turn out to be the other way around, where people need to get them off their hands so it's a lot less!

Last week I bought the 5D classic kit (5D + 24-105L) for $2590 from Adorama. If you subtract the price of the lens, about $1050 then I only paid $1500 for a brand new 5D.
