Hi!

I just saw a listing on ebay about a good used eos 5d with a bg-e2 battery grip.

My understanding is that the 5d uses the bg-e4 but does someone know if it is compatible with the bg-e2?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

bg-e2 will only fit the 20D, 30D, and 40D. the 40D can also use the newer BG-E2N. the 5D can only be gripped with the BG-E4.

strange, the seller said it worked fine for him...

The compatibility issues of the bg-e2 would be physicall (bg-e2 not fitting the 5d)? Or functional (it fits the body but does not allow to actionate the shutter on the grip, etc)?

Thanks.

I have both the BG-E2 and BG-E4 and just tried it. The BG-E2 WILL NOT FIT THE 5D.

The part that enters the camera is the same, but the screw does not line up with the body.

are you sure only the 40D would fit the BG-E2N? I mean, isn't it just more weather sealing/lack of a textured surface that sets it apart from the BG-E2? (which fits just fine on the 20/30).

The BG-E2N works fine on the 20D and 30D as well.

Thank you very much for taking the time to test them!!!!

I have already contacted the seller and he agreed to change the grip for a BG-E4.

By the way is 1,325 USD a good price for a used 5d with its grip (no scratches, original box and all items that came with it)?

smells like a scam.

1. price is a little too low for a 5d+grip.

2. the seller doesn't realize that they have been caught lying to you.

FWIW - The BG-E2 fits the 20D, 30D, 40D, and 50D cameras and works as it was designed.

I completely agree with Opus... the guy just happened to have another grip lying around?

Looking for my 5D, I ran into a few scams. It seems to be a favorite with the ripoff artists:

The used price is high enough to make it worthwhile for them but low enough to get someone to bite.

The 5D reputation and the chance to upgrade makes it hard for the DSLR buyer to be objective.

It's usually obvious if it's a local seller and the camera isn't "available" to check out. If he's not local, maybe you could ask him to take a picture of the 5D on a current newspaper with the date showing:D... he probably doesn't have one.

Good luck,

Michael
