What i think that canon lacks quality control. There in so much of a hurry to get something new on the street that they forget to check if it works right. Even with the 40D thereĀ“s problems on the AF. Canon be doing something because it seems like nikon is ahead of the race and winning.

I am going to do my own test in the store and go from there. I really do not care what the magazines, websites nor the crowd does, and have learned not to believe in very much other then my own judgement.

...However, reading these forums and all the negative things being said about both 50D and 5D Mk11, ...

How can anyone slam the new 5D. It's not even out yet.

ebay with %25 back from MS :)

How did you get it that low? Max cashback is $200, so that means you paid $640. Is that new, or can you apply it to used as well?

Edit: Didn't see your last post. I guess you can apply it for used.

I'm keeping my 40D at least until my 5Dii gets here.... I had considered (briefly) selling the 40D for a 50D, but that was before the prices were announced and the tests were out. Had it offered usable 6400 (meaning a vast improvement to the 40D's noise) I would have considered it, even at the price it's at, but with that it is, no way...

I'm hoping the 5Dii holds enough IQ in a cropped (to 1.6 size) image that I can actually sell the 40D as well and be back to 1 body. I'm not sure of I can give up the "6.5" fps though for some of my sports shooting.

I was on the fence between the 50D and some glass or the 5D2. After reading the reviews of the 50D, and seeing how attractive the prices for the 40D are, I ended up getting a 40D. (New on ebay for $600 after 25% live cashback).

I am going to use it for a few months an see how the 5D2 looks...If the images from the 5D2 are as good as I think they will be, I'll likely be purchasing a 5D2 when they become more available.

Also, you have to note that their tests are usually shot at high apertures, yet if you do the math, after about 13mp, you don't gain any usable resolution at f8, or after 7mp at f11. Of course the 50d will look dull, it hit the diffraction limit. No matter how good the lens is, that limit is absolute for an aperture based lens.

but isnt this another argument against the 50D? if its images will start to look softer after f8, then youve got a very small usable range of sharp f stops. what if you need a really large DOF, or want slower shutter speeds??

... The 40D is not half the camera the 50D is, but it is half the price. For me, there is no question.

You're right there .. it's more like 7/8's - 9/10's .. let's stop knocking older models just because new ones come out ;)

I was pretty set on the 50D as well until I read the review. I found a local 50D that is for sale and I am going to take a few shots with that and my 30D and make the comparisons for myself before I make a decision. I use LR for my RAW conversions so I'm curious to see the noise difference between my current 30D and the 50D. I won't let a single review determine a camera purchase though, I would prefer to see the difference for myself with my own lenses, software, etc.

Be sure to also shoot at least a few high-ISO shots in sRAW1 (7.1 megapixels, slightly below the resolution of your 30D) with the 50D before you draw any conclusions.
