Anyone here upgrade to the new SX10 from a S5? I am looking to find out if people think that the SX10 is worth upgrading to from the S5. How is it in terms of photo quality?

I upgraded from the S3 and it was worth it to me. The long zoom range is very good and I like having wide angle capability in the same lens.

I have used a friends S5 and it is very similar to the S3. Both S3 & S5 have a faster lens than the SX10, but that doesn't bother me because I have a DSLR for times when I know I will need a fast lens such as taking pics at my kids indoor sporting events. I also don't carry a flash or filters, etc. with me when I walk out the door with my SX10. It's my "travel light" camera (even though it is actually a hefty little piece).

The photo quality is typical Canon. Great color and a touch on the soft side most times right out of the camera (but nothing a little USM can't take care of). I'm very pleased with the images I'm getting. I always set the EV to -1/3 to -2/3 when shooting outdoors, but it seems that I've had to do that with every Canon P&S I'ver ever owned. I will say that a more advanced camera user will certainly be able to milk some very nice pics out of the SX10 under all conditions.

I would recommend handling both (if you can). The S5 & the SX10 are both fantastic cameras but each has it's own feel and quirks.

Just bought it from the store....4-5 hours now it is with me....
I didn't have any S5 or that series....only 720 IS,

Still now I am impressed....I didn't see any menu un-comfortability which other ppl said in the most forum....

One disappointments.... It didn't have any "AIAF" focusing ....which my A720 have.

I did't feel any wheel un-comfortability though big hand may face some..even you don't want to use it you can ignored it too.

Still I am not use all feature though, or open the manual...So writing all this too early.

One more thing, I can use the view finder and ignore the LCD completely....Whoa.........I didn't know that...maybe S5 user already experience this luxuries feature.

Update:---

If you shoot in AV mode & want to adjust Aperture value you need to rely on the wheel completely(correct me If I am wrong).....and it is much faster in my A720 IS.

Wheel is a bit slow....As of now I found.

"Untouched"? They can't - there's a max. image size limit here so by definition they'd be "touched" to get them down to the max. 1024 pixels on a side. Also there are still a number of in-camera settings that can alter the final OOC image.

Waussie, while I cannot post unretouched photos here, I can come close. I uploaded 6 full size photos to a set on my Flickr site. There is a link to this set below. The photos look to be an odd size as I was shooting in the SX10 IS "wide" mode (3648 x 2048 ) as a test of something I want to do. These are right out of the camera, shot at mid-day in a really tough bright sun. EXIF is intact.
