Well I know I have a bunch of freighter pics and live on the Great Lakes. I figured some other people have some too. I added the big boats part because some people haven't had the opportunity to shoot/see these massive vessels! I'll start it off with one of my favorites.

This is just coming out from underneath the Blue Water Bridge. From Port Huron, MI (left side) to Sarnia, ON (right side)

And a CC on this one for sure. Which one you like better? It was a stormy day on and off which made for some cool pictures, but I almost like the b/w one better.

After running aground just to the right of this photo, this ship was being towed into port for repairs. Newcastle, Australia.

The color version for certain...the B/W versions just don't have the same pop.

Hello Iz, to a fellow Great Lakes neighbor. I'm just a bit south of you down in Cleveland, where the Cuyahoga River empties into the lake. A year ago while bridge walking I caught this shot of the Algoway making it's way up the crooked river. I felt it was a good color photo, but had more impact in B/W. It also rec'd Best in Show at the Butler Museum's Midyear juried competition.

Great idea for a thread!

Love this Stuart...

Looks like it could have been shot years ago during the heyday of Great Lakes shipping and manufacturing...

Just for the record. they're ships not boats. Anything 100' or over is a ship, anything less is a boat.

I appreciate the kind words Jay - yes, you nailed the mood I was trying to create. The color version is very "pretty" in a post card sort of way, but here I feel the impact of B/W really shows the power of river commerce, steel, and the skyline; color would have only distracted IMHO.

I can't get this to edit well since the lighting was terrible. Anyway, this was at this years offshore boat races. Freighter had to go through so they waited to start. (I know, my sensor was dirty)

Well yes, I guess ship/boat whatever you think is big or cool will work. I dont care if it's a 80 ft Cabin Cruiser, it's sweet!
