One of the first shots with my XSi. Not a true macro. Had to use my 18-55 kit lens and ProOptics extension tubes (32mm tube). Hoping to swing a 100 macro lens this month.

marjnap, it's a house centipede. Scares the *&$%# out of people when they find them, say, in their bathtubs! I have never seen one, but I could see that I would probably jump out of my skin. Alann, nice shot of a very leggy critter.

Thanks all. I hope to get a 100mm macro lens shortly. Would like to open up opportunities to learn more.

Scutigra coleoptrata, wicked fast and prone to throwing legs! Introduced across the USA also, native to Europe.

Try this:

Imagine holding this on your palm and closing it ever so gently, giving it enough room to wiggle around with its centi-pede. Damn.

I did not imagine a good feeling, I'll have nightmares about that....

Very nice shot! I don't like house centipedes. They run really fast and come out of nowhere.

Greetings - We have these in Japan, called a gejigeji. They get quite big and although venomous, are not nearly as scary as the hard bodied centipede called the mukade. The ones here not so fast, and you would think with all those legs they would be speedsters. Alann - might want the 180 macro for these. Ha! Ha!

You are correct. I do want a Macro lens but, from what I read the 180 requires a tripod more often than not so most likely will be a 100mm. If I can get close enough at 50mm and not get bitten 100 will be a piece of cake! :)
