I just got back from meeting Tony, William and NemesisZ (sorry I forgot your name). I got some good shots and a good time meeting you guys. We also met a cool dude with some nice Canon gears, Cesar from North Carolina. We told him about POTN and we might have a new member soon. He let me try a Canon x1.4 II to go with my 70-200 and realize I need to spend more money on gear, I need of those.

I'm looking froward to the next meet.

And for the ones that didn't make it, the tiger had this to say.

What a day at the Zoo! The weather was just right and there were opportunities for some great shots.

I had the great fortune of meeting William (WSpruance), Travis (NemesisZ) and Claude (DozerLYP). I thoroughly enjoyed the day at the Zoo and hope we can meet again shortly.

Sorry we missed the others. I hope no one showed up late and could not find us. (CheckNeg did you get there after 9:45?)

Miami MetroZoo (Fri Dec 26th)

The Giant Eland is the world's largest antelope. In the wild it is found south of the Sahara desert in savannah and woodland habitat...This antelope can weigh more than 2,000 pounds yet still run 45 miles per hour and jump more than five feet in the air to clear anything blocking its way. When is it better to visit the Everglades for birding? Early morning or late evening?

nice shots guys. i recently went to palm beach zoo but it was so disappointing, i would have def. come to miami zoo if i was in fl.

Now see I think the other way around - Miami metrozoo is way overrated. I thoroughly enjoyed Palm Beach zoo and even though its small - it certainly seems like the animals are in better shape, have better habitats and the zookeeps actually care. On that thought I did not like the new exhibits all that much (amazon and beyond). It seemed to be designed to funnel people around and purposely confuse them, as opposed to being a good habitat for the animals, or to actually look at the animals. Miami seems to have some of the laziest, docile, depressed animals around. I've been there dozens of times and the highlight is the monorail. Oh and the chimps are the best around :)

Tampa's Lowry Park zoo - now THAT is a great zoo. Again rather small, but not so much as Palm Beach (which gives you a nice close feel with the animals, with the downside - maybe they are cramped a bit, but I didn't see it in PB). However I saw zookeeps at Tampa LPZ walking animals, interacting with them, they seemed peppy, didn't shy away or hide in the back of the exhibit, etc.
