A little tip for you is to use the center focus option. The first picture is in focus on the tree and not the young one which I'd say you wanted. I always use the center dot when shooting the kids so I have more control over the point of focus as they move around a bit. Also when you do focus on the eye area if you can.

Thanks. I was trying to focus on him .. but I always seem to have trouble when something is in front of the person ... Thanks for the advice. I will definitely keep trying :)
