Blasphemy! Who dares question the holy trinity?

How can you exclude the 300 f/2.8 from that list?

it is a hard call 200L vs 300L, plus I wanted to go 2-4-8 binary sequence...:)

my trinity is 17-40L, 50 f1.4 and 85 f1.8

But if you want stereotypical answers, not based on needs or preference, then :
1) 35L 85L 135L
2) 28 1.8 50 1.4 85 1.8
3) 16-35L 24-70L 70-200L
4) 10-22 EFS 17-55 EFS 70-200L

The 1.2 Trinity

85mm 1.2
50mm 1.2
35mm 1.2 (Voigtlander - I know I know, but it's the only one I could find);)

Great shots are like great parking spaces... if you're not quick, it's gone!

+1 Absolutely. I like the 200mm focal length a lot more than the 135mm (on FF), and man that 200 f/2L is sweet.

hehe I never want to see or touch that 200 f2.... If it gets anywhere near my 5D I am afraid I will be 5000$ more in debt. haha

Well, technically, trinity really means "three united into one", as in tri-unity.

Therefore, the Canon Trinity for FF would be the 24-70 or 24-105 and for APS-C, it would be the 17-55.

:-)

everyone has their own idea of the "perfect" trinity..my personal trinity.... 35L, 85L 200f2L :)

For me I am leaning towards the 24L, 85L and 200L.

But I like your style. Don't get hung up on what others are saying is ... "The Trinity". Get what you need to shoot the stuff you want. Seems way simple to me.

The only "Trinity" that really matters is the one where "The Bomb" was perfected... ;)

Trinity - Schminity

I am very seppy with two zoom lenses on two bodies 17-55mm f/2.8L IS and 70-200mm f/4L IS on a 30D and 40D. These are my go-to general purpose and travel lenses and I do 90% of my shooting with them.

24-105

Tokina 11-16mm f2.8
Canon EFS 17-55mm f2.8 IS
Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS

i didnt buy the 10-22 because i didnt like the vignetting on the lens at 10mm.
