and would liek to know anyone that has the JTL stand set can tell me if the Stands can be used as lightstands as well.

The bolt sticking out of the top of the stands are 1/2 inch I think and wouldn't work with normal light stand lugs/studs whatever you call them. As a background stand it works very well. Ive had mine a few years without problem, the only thing Ive had to do is tighten one of the clamps as I usually have 3 backgrounds on it exceeding the weight and one side sagged a little. 60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

I'm sure you could "hack" something up to make the 1/2" bolt into a 5/8's inch spigot for light attachments, however my best mod to these stands was to get a piece of heavy angle iron and make a single roll holder for the expan system. Using a 4" grinder is very easy to "cut" the grove so that the expan roller can attach vertically... The grove would be at an opposite 45 degree angle and open up to the sky.
