I love my silver camera

QUOTED IMAGE

Why would you not use the lens' tripod mount?

Hmmm. I have a silver XSi and I prefer it. I don't care a bit what other people might think of it. Why on earth would I? Honestly, I think you are all too concerned about your images when you should just focus on your images...:p

Because I've just bought the lens and don't have a plate for it yet ;)

That's the 70-200 f/4 right, Roovin? If it were the 2.8 you might break the mount by not using the bracket.

Say What?

Whats with that big fat collar attached to that big white lens? Looks like a tripod mounting ring to me!

Whats a plate?

I'm guessing he knows that. Some photographers like to have a quick release plate on ever camera body and every lens tripod collar.

Also that's the 400 5.6.

And those plates don't work while attached to the lens collar rather than the camera body?

Seems to me that if you have one plate attached to the camera, then it could just as easily been attached to the collar.

Okay, I understand.

He wants to keep it on the camera so he can change lenses.

I cracked a battery grip doing the same thing.

Yes but that defeats the purpose of it being a QUICK release plate. One for each camera, one for each lens with a collar. What if he swaps lenses? Then he'll have to remove the plate from the collar, reattach to camera, etc. If you only have one plate, it goes on the camera, and then you go buy more.

edit: you got it ;)

Thats why I purposely lost my first tripod but kept the plate (joking), so now I have one on the camera and one on the ring.

I prefered silver bodied film cams because it took them longer to get hot in the sun. Heat + Film = Bad pics.

Probably trying to support all the weight of a big lens on the tripod mount hole of a plastic entry level battery grip.

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.
