Yes, it is slow compared to say a 24-70 or it's focal length cousin the 85 1.8 or whatever, but in normal use, (when I say normal I don't mean shooting infinity close, close infinity) it's an absolute gem of a lens which is very useable in "most" shooting situations. Hell, if you can shoot during a wedding with one, then I'd say that's a fair test of its performance. Throw it on a 1 series, and it speeds up quite considerably.
