I believe the whole slow focus business is blown out of proportion to be honest. Yes, it is slow compared to say a 24-70 or it's focal length cousin the 85 1.8 or whatever, but in normal use, (when I say normal I don't mean shooting infinity close, close infinity) it's an absolute gem of a lens which is very useable in "most" shooting situations. Hell, if you can shoot during a wedding with one, then I'd say that's a fair test of its performance. Throw it on a 1 series, and it speeds up quite considerably.

Oh, is someone going to throw me a 1 series:D:D:D. I've shot two weddings with it myself.

Yes, but not all the time. I've seen it on about 4 occasions.

I've used it many more times and never had a problem.
