I have been shooting with my right eye ever since I stared shooting, but I just realized that maybe I should be shooting with my left since it's my good eye (i.e. everything doesn't shift over, compared to having both eyes open, when I have only my left eye open). Should I switch?

Whatever works for you. I know if I had to shoot with my left eye the oil smudge on the LCD screen would be right over the histogram, (not good):lol: Seriously, I think it would be very awkward-feeling.

I'm left eye dom (and left handed) and have no problem using my left eye. Shoot portrait is slightly awkward but nothing you don't get used to.

a day or two ago - there was a reference to a video of a guy showing an interesting left eye / stable shooting style. He braced the camera on his shoulder & used some sort of cross over grip - supposed to be really stable.

That seems kinda awkward but I'll try it.

I shoot with my dominant left eye and always have. I think it looks strange to see some one looking through the veiwfinder with their right eye.

I think you can use whatever eye you want, but if you have both eyes open, you have to look trough the viewfinder with your dominent eye.

I shoot with my left eye because I find it works better with glasses. My left eye seems to focus through the viewfinder easier too. Whichever works for you, there is no right or wrong!

Whatever works for you is what's right for you.
That being said, here's some thought process to consider. I used to be a photojournalist and spent a long time training myself to shoot with both eyes open. This is important because as a journalist, you shoot what's happening as it happens. There is no restaging of a sequence. When shooting sports, especially basketball, soccer and football, you need to keep an eye on where the ball is as well as players that are close to you to get the best shot and avoid injury.
You can shoot with both eyes open using either eye but since shutter releases are always on the right side, your right-hand will significantly block your peripheral vision.
So, while what you shoot now may not require maximum viewing area, it's worth keeping in mind.
