f/8 is the sweet spot (not sure how you even get to f/9).

I've been real pleased with my copy. Check out my flickr link if you want to see some pics. Unfortunately, after Christmas I'm going to send in into Canon for repair. Its suddenly become vary soft at 300mm with some strange haloing especially with with anything white. I think something is out of alignment.

Bummer about the softness and halo. Hope it's fixed soon.

My grandson shot this Vette in the fog with my 30D while I was driving him to school one morning.
The IS seems to be working. 1/50s f/4.5 at 100.0mm iso400

Sigma 150 macro, 1.4X, 2X, Quantaray 2X, Kenko closeup tubes, Yongnuo YN685(3), Yongnuo YN-622C-TX. Lots of studio stuff.

Just picked up my first DSLR the Canon Rebel XS, upgrade from a Pentax W30 waterproof camera. Which will still get some use for underwater photography and unfavorable weather conditions. Here's a picture I took handheld with the lens at the 300mm setting from aproximately the minimum focusing distance at ISO 800 1/160 f/5.6 w/flash. So far I am very happy with the camera, kit lens and especially this one.

Both of these were taken with a 50D. Both are ISO 1600, 300mm, f/6.3, 1/400 sec.

This lens, along with going digital right before my trip, was the best investment I made before going to Africa. All below are handheld, sometimes in a running vehicle.

^Found this big guy just before dawn, so shutter speeds were down to 1/15 and 1/30... without IS, no way this would have been possible.
