I could not imagine showing up to a family birthday party with $3-4K worth of camera and L lens.

+1

This is why I own a G9.

Totally.

A590 IS ftw . It's hilarious because I shoot it in M with spot metering and often manual focus, and when my friends try to take a picture with it, well, there are a lot of confused faces.

Did you check out the one at DC? :D

naw, i was thinking about it all night, didn't even sleep. I am going to hold off a bit and get some lenses. SO far I have no need for the 1D III yet as I have a 1D II and a 5D II. I am going to try out Nikon and rethink this. I don't loose anything because I have a special purchase plan with Nikon =D x 10

i'm gonna pretend like I didn't read that post =D I am debating between the D700 and D300. I know its no debate but I am trying to figure out whether I really need that full frame. If I really enjoy the D300 I will probably sell all my Canon gear except for the 5D II and some lenses and get a D3. Best of both worlds for ME.

So what you are saying is...if you like the D300...then:

D3 + 14-24 + 24-70 + 70-200 + 200-400?

;) :D

=D If you saw the sheet with my Nikon pricing you'd wonder why I am still with Canon. Canon offers no employee pricing of an sort.

I've been watching the poll and laughing, looks like the mkIII will over take your 5d mkII any day now. then its just a matter of time before it pulls far far away.

1D mk III / 5D mkI / 15mm 2.8 fisheye / 16-35mm 2.8 / 24-70mm 2.8 / 70-200mm 2.8 IS / (4) 580exII's

Me too!

Maybe it's because the 5D2 is the new model, whereas pretty soon (I hope!) the 1DMkIV will come out, and then more of the "woulda bought a 5D2 but somehow it didn't feel like the right upgrade" folks will leap, inline with their voting!!!

Man this whole newer better faster camera craze is making me dizzy.

I am afraid if I go to sleep for too long I will wake up to a world where 100MP and 25 FPS is just not enough at ISO 256,000.

How about a hot bowl of Pho(Vietnamese beef noodle soup)? Or a Big Mac Combo? :p\
Anyway I am still debating between these two.

Hello fellas,

Since the 5Dmk2 is so hard to get my hands on and the 1dmk3 price is starting to drop. So the price between these are not that much beside the 1D's hold its re-sale value more than the 5d's does! Kinda don't like the 1dmk3 because its kinda big! If you have the fund which one you will choose?

Edit: This camera is not for sport! I just do family's photo!
Thank you!

I have been asking myself this same question. 1DIII or 5DII. I have found prices for them between $1,999-2,099. The 5DII being the more expensive of the two and if you consider the battery grip you can add another $250 to that price. From what I have read the image quality is near the same, the 5DII doing a bit better at those high ISOs. In my mind it comes down to Video Recording (which is limited without and auto focus) and a weather resistant body with built in grip and more room on the back.

Personally I haven't figured out which I am going to pick up yet.
