Allison - aaaarrrggghhhhh :(

It's a P51D - the engine is a Packard built Rollls-Royce Merlin

There is nothing like the roar of a Merlin. :)

Great photo though

Regards

"Originally fitted with an Allison V-1710 engine, the Mustang proved to be a superb fighter at low to medium altitudes, but its performance dropped off above 12,000 feet. At the urging of a Rolls Royce test pilot, a few R.A.F. P-51s were tested with a Rolls Royce Merlin engine and the Mustang found new legs."

Allison was the first name that came to my mind...Probably because of Mia Farrow and Peyton Place..

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.

Hey Thanks everyone, I was kinda just fooling around. The location for these is at Hawthorne airport in CA. The landing field is not very long so when the planes come in they try to land right at the begining of the runway, there just happens to be a Lowes' right accross the street. A fun place to hang out... I was using my 20D & 100-400L some were shot at 50th using full IA servo but no IS, if you go to my pbase galleries you can see the full exif there...
