I did a search but could only find a few threads that were nearly a year old. Maybe I suck at searching. Sorry if this has been covered before.
So, what's the monitor calibrator of choice? Eye-one? Spyder? Color Munki? I have an IMac. Don't know if that makes a difference but I thought you should know.

Thanks,
Rick

Check out the Spyder 2 express (external link) and Spyder 3 pro (external link). They're probably the biggest brand. There's all sorts that'll work though.

Bump. Thanks. Anybody else? I was hoping to get some first hand low down from people who have used more than one.

I've got the Spyder3Elite to calibrate 2 Apple Cinema Displays. Its as easy as following the on screen directions and less than 10 minutes later your monitor is calibrated.

I've used a LaCie Blue eye and a Monaco Optix ProXR.

Both work well.

Both are not on the market any more (at least: not in those versions)

I have an i1, use it on my Vista laptop, very easy to use & AFAIK the results look fine to me.... can't see why it would be any different on a mac?

I had a spyder 1 a few years back, terrible! when I was looking to buy I read reviews stating to stay away from the 2nd version as well.... the third one gets the thumbs up from most.

I had a Spyder2 for the last 7 or 8 months. It served me well on both my notebook and my dual display desktop, until I recently got a wide gamut 24" LCD. The calibration was 'off' on the wide gamut screen, so I was forced to upgrade.

After waffling on the decision (spyder 3 elite vs eye one display 2) for about a month I decided to go with the Eye One. I just received it yesterday, and did initial calibrations on my notebook (XP MCE) and my desktop (Vista 64) last night. Both went very smoothly, but I haven't had much time to adjust/compare.

The differences on my notebook were minimal, but subtly noticeable.

On my desktop, the differences on my 19" TN LCD were again minimal, but subtly noticeable. On my 24" HP LP2475w (IPS, wide gamut) the differences were very pronounced. I've had it for about 3 months now, with the old Spyder calibration. It will probably take me a week or so to get used to the new calibration.

Just for example, calibrating the luminance to 110, my previous brightness and contrast settings were 46 and 44 respectively. With the Eye One, those settings are 16 and 100 now.

Thanks for the input guys. Keep it coming. I haven't decided yet. I may be able to borrow an EYE-ONE from work. If I can then I'll use that. But if I can't I'll get what seems to be the consensus "best" calibrator.

I was just about to ask the same question... I'm currently deciding between spyder3 pro or Eye-one 2.

Where's the best place to buy in the UK? Jigsaw is the cheapest I've found so far

Eye-one display 2. First calibrator. Seems to work good and easy to use. There is a screen shot tutorial here that will help you get started.

Well as it turns out I got to borrow one from work. I'd like to buy my own though. I'll probably get the Eye One 2. The one from work is the Eye-One Pro that uses Profile Maker 5 software. Worked great.
