However, in your case, I'd go for the 24-105, on grounds that you say it will be your only lens purchase for a long time and you only currently have the 50mm. You need a little bit more range, especially because you are shooting full-frame. The 105 on the long end should be a great fit. Andrew

Canon 24-105 F4 L, 85mm, 400mm F5.6, 50mm F1.8, 18-55mm, Sigma 10-20, 100-300mm, Canon 28-105 F3.5-F4.5, Kenko x1.4, Tubes and a bunch of Elinchrom Lights, flashes, reflectors and triggers.

At the end of the day, for what I like to shoot, the 24-105mm was definitely a better choice. The IS makes up for the extra stop and I don't shoot anything moving, preferring landscapes and cityscapes. The extra reach is great and don't let anyone fool you, the 24-70mm is definitely heavier, especially for a walk around. These are the exact reasons I opted for the 70-20mm f/4 over the f/2 version.
