I apologize in advance if this is already common knowledge.
I was fooling around with my Rebel XT and Cybersync last night. I noticed the cable release port on the XT and the male plug on the cable for my Sunpak 383 looked about the same size.
Turns out they are. I now have a remote shutter release for my XT that blows the RC-1 away. You don't even have to put it in "Timer mode". Hitting the test button or firing a shot from the "master" camera immediate releases the shutter on the XT.
This is the cable I'm using: http://www.flashzebra.com/radiocables/0017.shtml
My 5d has a different port for shutter release, but I'm sure I can find a cable for it.
