Ok, so clearly, I did not take these photographs. My grandfather served in WWII, stationed in Alaska. My grandmother always told me that he was the "Camp Photographer." However, it was not until recently that I learned that this was not a self titled position but the job given to him by the Army. He died just before my first birthday. I had always admired the snapshots he had sent home (just "junk" according to my grandmother). But when my mom and I decided that they should be displayed properly and began sorting through them, I discovered just how lovely some of it was. I simply HAD to share a couple.
The first is one of the gentelmen he served with and I always thought he looked the epitomy of heroic. Like he should be on a recruitment poster.
The second is my grandmother, and my Great Auntie Caroline and someone else in Yosemate. That's one of my all time favorite photographs taken by anyone ever.
