Exploring the more artistic side of post processing a photograph in this one.

Critiques are welcome.

Version with banding issue resolved.

And a vertical version. I prefer this one myself...

These sucked that bad?

Funny thing, different tastes for different people I guess. I consider this some of my best photography and post processing to date.

So as not to completely bump my thread, I'll throw in another photo...same area, different day.

I think they are beautiful. I find its very hard to get feedback here.
I agree with you, the second one is fantastic!

They are great shots..

........ Are you looking for actual feedback, critiques, or an 'atta boy..:)

I'll give you all three.....

The first set is beautiful...however, the sky shows a lot of grain and you have too much going on......

The shore and water is killer........crop out the sky to just at, or below, the blue, because even though it is pretty and colorful.....what is the subject....the pretty sky, or the delicate wisps of water against the rugged shoreline ? So, from that perspective, I would say the horizontal, minus the sky..

Your second post is similar....... you have exposed the water and shore very well...but you let the sky slip away.. while the water moves, so does the sky, and it shows in the clouds..

Going back to the first horizontal.......... If you take care of the sky issue, that one is one to blow up to 11x14 or 16x20, matte, frame and display proudly..(I am assuming there is more detail in the original)

.... Got some cameras; got some glass ..... I just need one more of each.....

I like them. I would prefer the second one with the bottom one fourth cropped off.

Second is my favorite. Folks on this forum seem to be reluctant to comment, especially to be the first. That's why I frequently make a comment when no one else has, just to start things off.

All three of these are great, but I do prefer the second (vertical) one.

Thanks much. Feedback is indeed becoming harder to come by on this forum, but it is appreciated. It is where I learned a good deal of what I know now, and I'm more than sure it is still a place I can continue to learn and grow as a photographer.

A critique is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for taking the time to do so.

I was curious as to whether or not anyone else would notice the banding in the first image, or if it was just my monitor. I believe my processing is was messed that portion of the sky up. I may go back and redo that image again as the original has no banding. The second one though, has little to no noise. I can provide a 100 percent crop of any portion of it if you would like.

As for cropping, I did try various versions of these images before settling on uncropped, as they fit my overall vision of the scene. Without the clouds you lose a good portion of the bright colours. Without the foreground water or rocks, one loses the overall drama of the scene. I posted the second one as the horizontal version seems to be missing a major portion of what I considered a major part of the scene. It does break the 'rule' of the horizon being in the middle, but due to the position of the clouds in relation to the foreground, I chose to compose it so. During PP I did straighten it up a bit, but that's about it for cropping.

You mentioned movement in the clouds. Your eye is indeed better than mine, as I'm having problems seeing too much blur, except in the third image, which is a 15 second exposure. The first two are 6 and 5 second exposures. I'm not sure the clouds had much time to move or change that quickly, but just because I don't see it, does not mean others don't.

Thank you for the critique. I do appreciate it, and next time I go out to shoot, I will take note of some of the points you have made.

I think I'll go back and redo this one. Some of what Larry pointed out to me is now blatantly obvious. I'm glad you like it though. ;]

Interesting crop. I'll try it out, but I'm still quite partial to the original crop. This was at 22mm so I actually left quite a bit out of the scene. Is a composition like this more to your liking? Taken the earlier that evening at 16mm, .5 seconds, f18

Looks like number 2 is the preferred image. Great eyes see alike? ;]
