First real attempt at HDR, Detroit river from Windsor Ontario.

It's from 4 images using photomatrix.
How is it?

Technically stunning. I don't mind the central composition because it's quite symmetrical.

My only nitpick would be that the reflection of the tallest building kisses the edge of the water and ice. If you could have gotten a little bit closer physically. I would even be tempted to just clone in a touch of water there as a spacer.

Beautiful shot.

I don't know about the technical aspect of the HDR but I like the shot! When it warms up a little I want to come to your side of the river and take some shots of Detroit.

Good result on the HDR processing. I can't agree entirely with Chris about your composition - I do think it would be better had you placed your major elements more off-center.

Great shot, nonetheless.

I live in the greater Detroit area and I've never seen that city look this good. Great shot!!

Wonderful shot!

I can't wait to try HDR myself with this kind of inspiration.

Thank you for the input and comments.
I have a couple more I'm working on.
I wanted the heart on the building and the moon in the photo.
You can only catch the moon at sunrise like this a couple times a year and you can just hope the weather is on your side.

viewers will either like the composition or not. I like the composition because it is centered. Not all photos should be in thirds. With the reflection it gives an "X" shaped composition, but the stunning moon draws your eyes in. Technically, it is stunning. Artistically...too cool! I didn't know Detroit was so picturesque. Kudos. If you go reshoot in the same area...try screwing around with the color temperature to see what other unique images could occur. (the color temp is fine...I am just suggesting something I do every so often...to push the warm or cool temps)

Seriously beautiful shot. Centred composition definitely works in this instance. My only gripe would be the ice and those wooden poles in the foreground. I dont think they add anything to the overall shot and they distort the depth. But thats just me and it's only that one thing!

The correct side of the river to see Detroit from. I agree that the foreground does nothing to add to the image but you gotta take what you can get. It is still a great shot.

Awesome shot! I was driving to work that morning wishing I had the time to take some pictures, the moon was awesome.

Do you mind me asking what your lens choice was? Also, what time do you think this shot was?

First,
Thanks for all the comments, much food for thought and planning.

I used a Canon 17-40 for this picture
iso 100, f11 with exposures from 2-25 seconds.
