Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS - Nifty Two-Fifty

My first post in these forums. Just got this lens and took a few shots of my girlfriend on a walk with our pooch. All taken at iso 400, around 1/125:

Nice shots! I don't have a specific opinion on the 28-135 IS though, but it seemed alright on my brother-in-law's 40D.

After reading this whole thread, yes every page, I will be buying this to compliment my 18-55 IS and 50 1.8. I have read of people in this thread turning IS off for really fast moving objects, what is the breaking point in which you want to turn of IS? I just leave my IS on all the time.

Hey londonandlawson -

Since IS only applies to camera shake, and does not stop action, you'll need a fast shutter speed to freeze action. IS 'on' works great in low light conditions with long lenses, or for macro situations. It is not always the best choice for action, unless there is enough light to allow a high shutter speed - under those conditions IS 'on' might actually make your shot somewhat sharper!
However, IS 'on' may also slow down the lens as the info is processed, and will add to the lag time between pressing the shutter and when the picture is actually taken, which is not a good choice in an action sport.
Another situation where you may want to turn it 'off', is for panning, or when the camera is mounted on a monopod, or tripod. So it's really up to you, along with the actual shooting conditions, to decide whether IS on or off, will improve or hinder your shot !

The Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens, or Nifty Two-Fifty will be a great addition to your gear !

Can anyone tell me the difference between "EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS" and the "EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM" I know that one is Image Stabilized and the other is Ultrasonic. I'd prefer the IS lens personally! My main reason for asking is that when looking for a price of a "nifty twofifty" I found the non IS, USM lens was more expensive? This has confused me a little and I'm hoping someone on here may be able to clarify!!

Or am I being a complete numpty???

I used a free program called AutoStitch. Worked great, does all the work for you.
