Hey!!!!!!!

Alright, so the time has come for me to start buying some my first lens!!!!
So far in the XSi/450D thread, i see ALOT of "50mm 1.8" in the signatures.
So if many have it, it must be a good lens.

What do you guys think of it as a 1st lens (besides the kit 18-55 IS). ?

and secondly.. where to buy it from? on B&H it has like 2 of the same lens, one says USA one says IMPORTED.. I dunno what that means.

Could someone send me a reliable link where to get from ?
I'd like to order it today... hopefully have it by next week ;)

I think it is great in addition to the kit lens. A good introduction to primes! B&H or Amazon or Adorama are good to order from.

USA means that it comes with a Canon USA warranty, so if you need warranty work, you can send it in.

the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens is a good companion the the kit lens and the 50mm f/1.8, then you have a nice range of glass that can be used in most situations. Thats what i have and have been happy with for now.

I plan on purchasing this too.
If you don't mind it buying used, why don't you check the sale section on these forums?

That's what I plan to do

I'm guessing Canon USA honour international warranties - so why not the warranties on imports?

The 50 is a great lens for the buck but I use my 55-250 more often. It has more of a niche in my gear bag because the 50 overlaps a bit with the kit lens for low light situations needing that focal length (wide app and sharpness vs IS and zoom).

This is a good idea. You can always find one in the sell forums and you'll get it for less than retail...and in good condition.

I think this is a very good "first" lens after the kit lens.
