What do yu find yourself thinking most often, I wish I could use a faster shutter speed or I wish I could get a bigger image, its just too far away. I f its the former the 50mm a great choice

the reason to get the 50/1.8 (aka Nifty Fifty) lens is not only because it is cheap, but also because it has a maximum aperture of f/1.8, which allows you to shoot pictures indoors under low lighting, at faster shutter speeds (no motion blur) without using the flash. To me, this lens is like a training lens...once you own it, use it, like it...you will want to buy other prime lenses like the 28mm or the 85mm or the 50/f1.4 which is whats happening to me now.

the 55-250 like the guys said above is also a good lens, but think to yourself, do I need to take photos of my kids inside my house (which then you will use the 50/1.8) or do i need to take photos of my kids out in the soccer field (you would need the 55-250), or, you may even need both.

If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you!!

I agree. Personally what can you lose with such an inexpensive piece of glass? I enjoy goofing around with it and using it indoors.

I was thinking the same as bonzl. I have the 18-55IS, 55-250IS and the 50/1.8.

Depending on what you shoot, the 55-250 might be more useful. I personally like shooting a lot more indoor low light type shots, which makes the 50/1.8 a great lens. I love the fact that it was cheap and gives me the opportunity to really learn how to shoot with a DSLR. The shallow DOF is really a lot of fun to shoot too.

However, if you're shooting mainly outdoor type shots, the 55-250. Give you a nice range and you won't need the large aperature.

Hey!
Thanks for checking up.. :)
I absolutely LOVE IT!

Its the first time im using a fixed lens, so im still adjusting to the whole not being able to zoom deal, but for the price... i really can't complain.

Heres some pics I've taken with it.

They are a little bit edited, mainly in CameraRaw, just enhancing some stuff:
