I can't say I'm totally busted up over the demise of Ritz but losing local sources isn't necessarily a good thing.

The on-line powerhouses will continue but they are of little use if you need an emergency widget or doodad at 445pm for a 5pm shoot.

@ 20DNewbie: I hope you never have to be the one sleeping on cardboard under a bridge. I find your ill will Vs your real name to be increadibly ironic. Remeber: Karma's a ****...

I hope they restructure and emerge out of bankruptcy with a better store and definitely better prices.

I hope it never happens either, and I'll work as many hours/jobs as I have to to prevent it.

 That is a good one.

Over the years I've just seen/heard him yelling at way to many of his staff on the sales floor and clearing out the store in the process.

I've seen him rudely interrupt what would have been a decent sale for one of the workers and snake the commission from them.

I've seen him intimidate/bully/BS the customers into buying what he wanted them to buy. Most of the people that would fall into that category were the elderly who wouldn't know an SD card from a CF card.

By chance if someone were to stand their ground and insist on buying what they wanted he would just walk away and ignore you from that point on. That's what he did to me(yes I shopped there, it was my pre-forum days and I didn't know any better).

I asked the retiree why nobody has ever reported him to cooperate for his behavior and it turns out all they cared about is if the manager was an earner or not. If management earned they would look the other way and the reporting employee wound up getting fired.

Hi, my name is Christian and I've shopped at Ritz.

Great, now there's one less place to test a lens in-town so I can then run home and buy it on-line.

It doesn't surprize me. I was in a Ritz Camera store last in Ft. Meyers FL , they had nothing in stock

I'm kind of surprised at this news. Whenever I walk into Ritz they're cracking someones skull with a full price purchase and extended warranty. At Christmas the head-cracking line was almost to the door.

Usually, I don't like seeing brick and mortar stores go away, but this one killed a lot of true brick and mortars.

Remember, they've filed for Chapter 11, not Chapter 13. They are not necessarily going away. It's reorganization, not necessarily liquidation.

I think you mean Chapter 7.

The ones here in Maryland have zip for real cameras just bottom line Point and Shoots. I have tried several most times you can't find decent accessories like a camera bag to fit a DSLR, decent tripod, good blower or lens pen and they have no idea what a gray card is. I gave up trying to shop there.

I gave up shopping there when I found that the stores don't put prices on the items on the floor. I've been in two stores (in different areas) and none of the bags, filters, etc. had prices on them. I figured they were already overpriced, but I didn't want to have to ask the rep every time I wanted to know the price.

Right. 13 is for individuals. My bad.

I called last week to inquire about a Canon 17-85 lens and they were about $50 higher than anyone else in my area.
