Good riddance:

All I remember are dumpy stores and lousy service from this horrible chain. It always felt dishonest in one of those places. Hopefully, other untrustworthy places like Best Buy and all the other, ugly, suburban big box stores will disappear, too. It would be nice to have the smaller, local camera stores again, like we used to, before these weird, community destroying, corporate outsiders swooped down and destroyed the formerly pleasant shopping experience of yesterday.

I think you have the Internet to thank for that.

Over charging is above list price. They don't overcharge. Other stores undercut to eliminate competition. No Ritz, no Circuit City, just Best Buy. No thanks.
I have two small family owned stores in my area that get 95% of my business.
I will say that the Ritz, Christiana Mall in Delaware has a good selection and very good sales staff. I hate to see any business close shop. It catches up to you and I eventually.
Help your local neighbor and economy and buy locally.
The next job you save may be yours.

Good Selection = Yes
Very Good Sales Staff = No (Asked to see a Canon lens, store manager walked away in mid-sentance and passed the buck to an associate who was lets say..ummm..less than enthusiastic to help.

Buh-bye

Again, they're not shutting down completely (not yet at least), they are re-organizing. Some stores will close, but many (if not most) will remain open.

I think many will close leaving a few in key cities. I know there are too many in Tampa and Orlando alone and I'm sure the extras there are closing save the largest one in each area.

Last one to reorganize" was Circuit City, and shortly there after all the stores closed.

I think it's likely this will continue with Ritz too.

I'm soooo sad. Now I'll have to find some where else to get bad photo advice!

Too much stuff, not enough shooting time.

Canon T4i (2 lenses), Fuji X100s, Olympus OM-D EM-1 (3 lenses)

That's why I put the "(not yet at least)" clause in there.

I purchased a Tamrac backpack and probably overpaid by at least $20. Outside of that, I never said anything that I would want to spend my money on. Most of their stuff was generic, off brand and still overpriced.

While shopping for my 70-200 2.8L I stopped in a whim to see if Ritz had them in stock. They only had one. It was right around $1400 when the online retailers were $1140. They only had one copy and it was obviously it had been tested in store A LOT. Fingerprints, dust, smudges and marks all over it.

No thanks.

It's still sad to see a business go under. even an overpriced one. Not to mention all the money the owe Nikon,Canon and Fuji:(

Maybe they will not go under but it is not looking good.

i just walked into a wolf's camera yesterday. and boy, their inventory was pathetic. only a handful of lenses and a few bodies

mostly point and shoots and other small crap. Can we look forward to any liquidation sales?

Until they "restructure" the company, they aren't buying any merchandize. I also know a few stores will be on the chopping block....

Maybe some sales on that front... not likely though.
