Also is the price on 1dsii dropping more? I have been seeing them going closer to 2k. Most ads I see are for $2100-2200. Insane

Yup; it was reliably at 2400-2500 when I got mine early in the year.

Yeah. I thought I got an outstanding deal on mine last fall at $2500.00. I just recently picked up a 1D3 for $2400.00 and still prefer the images out of the 1Ds2 for just sheer "magic". My poor 1D2 is gathering dust these days.

I picked up mine before the 5d2 came out. I got it for $2800 - $200 (MSFT cashback live). I was weighing between the 1d3, 1ds2, and the yet to be released 5d2. You can read the thread at https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=601670.

Anyways, I am glad with the decision and would do it all over again.

As long as the condition really is 'excellent' except for the shutter mileage, I'm happy with the purchase. Mainly because if the shutter blows at some point in the near future, then I end up with an excellent condition 1Ds II with ZERO actuations for only $2075. That's still a steal in my opinion. The eyecup and battery aren't a big deal, even if the battery is dead. I can buy another Lenmar battery to replace it for $35, and the eyecup is $15. Not too bad. Now, if it's pretty beat up, I'll return it.

Actually...I just relooked at the listing yet again, and he added to the auction a SECOND Canon NP-E3...so it'll come with two and the charger. I hope the shutter lasts another 100K clicks (with the way MTBF works, I've got just as good a chance for this one to last another 100K as for one to fail at 100K, and there are a few I've seen with half a million to a million clicks.) If not, oh well...still the cheapest one I've seen in a while. I love auctions that end in the middle of a weekday. :)

With Canon updating the 1D3 & 1DS3 recently, I wonder if prices on the 1DS2s will start to climb back a little higher as people start to think the 1D4 is not around the corner....

Yes it is! Part of the reason I'm sort-of looking at a 1D Mk I -- if I can find one cheap enough I can get the shutter done and still have a great deal.

I paid $2k for my 1Ds2 with only 23k shots. The shutter started dragging a few months later and Canon kindly replaced it for free. So now I have a practically new one for two grand. :D

Finding one under $2300 will still take some searching but I think the forums will be your best bet. If they are listed between $2000 and $2200, they seem to go fairly quickly. Finding one under $2000 is still a case of being lucky and in the right place.

You can also check Craigslist locally but those will typically have a higher asking price.

I was looking on the Fred Miranda forums, and a thread from April 2008 was pretty funny. This guy was asking about the 1Ds2 for like $2700 or something with 40k shots on it in good shape, and pretty much everyone was saying that it must be a scam. That anything $3000 US or below to be careful about.

So in less than a year, this camera has dropped in price by a good $500 at the very least it seems. I'm guessing a load of people drooled at the 5D2, and maybe prices have dropped because of that? It's not like the 1Ds4 came out. I'd imagine when it does come out, this camera might be had for like $1600 with a relatively low shutter, which is just insane.

I let my sub-5200 click go. I'll probably regret it until my 1DMk3 arrives.
