PCB wins this years award for Cyber-Commander

Here is the criteria of how the PPA (supposedly) judges the "Hot One Award"

"All 18 of our Hot One judges are independent professional photographers, who were selected for their expertise and knowledge. None is an employee of Professional Photographer. As always, we asked the judges to make their selections based on the products' overall quality, innovation, design, performance, and value for the price"

Please read (this) (external link) thread and post thoughts

I'm just wondering how anybody can win an award for a product that isn't even available yet. I guess it's obvious that I don't understand what the real criteria is for winning the "Hot one award" is but I'm sure availability to the general public is not one of them.

Sounds suspiciously like "Official (whatever) of the US Olympic Team", which really means "Major contributing (whatever) to the US Olympic Fund"

Ridiculous. Paul says that the awards were given based on literature provided for the product. That is all sorts of incentive for companies to give exaggerated specs, and for the less-than-honest companies to win more awards.

edit: WOW....after reading that whole thread that was linked by RichNY, I'm not sure if I'll ever buy another product from PCB. He's incredibly sensitive about the criticism in the thread and closes it to avoid any negativity. Then he goes on to rant about the evils of this new US gov't and how it's "socialist"

I'm pretty surprised he would say something so inflammatory given he's a small business owner. Socialism is a whole hell of a lot different than a stimulus package or shift of tax breaks.

At this point Buff could be over a year late in delivering his product, like the Jobo on-camera GPS receiver, and still have the award! bw!

Wow, sorry to see that Paul is a little cry baby. I just read all 3 pages of that thread at PCB. No one was out of line in that thread over in the PCB forum. There was opinion and respectful chatter, but once again Paul shows that he can't and won't tolerate any negativity so he closes and locks the topic.

That is so unprofessional, he's a control freak and if I were a participant there I would be insulted by that. He shuts down an open discussion simply because he doesn't like what's being said about him, his company or the people that give these awards.

I try not to be a Buff basher but this is why he is so disliked on the net and in other forums. He just can't and won't take the criticism. His forum runs very smoothly until there is negativity and then it's all over.

Shame on you, Paul Buff.
