Any thoughts on how the 55-250 lens would do on a Canon 50D camera? I am looking for a relatively lightweight lens that would give us more reach + IS than our Tamron 18-200 zoom. Will be taking a Rebel XT and the Canon 50D to Alaska this summer. I have tried the Tamron 18-270 (great reach, slower focus) and Canon 70-200 2.8 L IS (too heavy, too expensive).
Love seeing all the photos. Thanks!
The 55-250 works well on the 50D. I have this combo, and I also have the 70-200 2.8L IS - but non of the Tamrons you mention.
I also have an XSi / 450D. I like the 55-250 better on my 50D than the 450D. I don't know if its just my imagination but it seems to lock focus better/faster. I had not pixel peep'ed too much with pics from my 55-250 on the 50D but in comparison with it on my 450D, it seems the IQ is better too. Maybe it has to do with the fact that my 55-250 front focuses just a hair at anything above 215 mm, and I've corrected that with the 50D AF microadjust thing-a-majig. Can't correct it on the 450D..
I'm pretty sure you'd be happy with it on the 50D. I am. But having said that, I'm even more happy with the 70-200 on my 50D.
