Color or B&W? Which do you prefer?

IMHO - noob opinion that is ..

I think color works best for me ..

reason being that in the B/W it looses sight of what he is painting and I keep struggling to make it out .. while on the color its clear as daylight ...

i just wish that stupid STOP sign wasn't in the way ..

For some reason I agree that the color version is somewhat better I am not sure as to why though. Possibly the black and white just doesn't fit with the surroundings, I dont know.

I'd choose the color, but I'm a fan of color myself.

If anything, a bit of a re-frame to get the stop sign out of the picture would do a world of good, and - if possible - getting some time to get that car out of the picture would help too.

B&W - I think it would be a timeless shot if the front of the car and the stop sign was not in the image.

I'm a big fan of B/W myself Chrissy, but unfortunately I feel that version of this shot has tones that are so close, much of the detail is just lost in a muddle. I do really like the composition here and feel that color really defines the separate components. You've got a good observant eye. Matter of fact I was just in Chicago myself two weeks ago, although my viewpoint was a little farther off:

I couldn't resist Chrissy - the more I stared at your nice color shot, the more I wanted to render a decent B/W interpretation of it. I managed to squeeze just a little more tonal range out of the really dark areas. Here it is:

OK, Stewart, you outdid yourself this time. The B/W conversion is really crisp and would be my choice over the original color. Before that, I was undecided between the color and B/W versions.

Thank you Bill - very kind of you. But in spite of my "interpretation" I feel that Chrissy put together a very pleasing color image. Printed on a nice (Epson) velvet fine art print paper, I think it would make for a very nice matted print.

Thank you all so much for the input. I really appreciate it! I too wish the sign and car weren't in the picture. I was just too excited to take the picture that I guess I wasn't paying attention. With my limited PS abilities, I think I can get the sign out, but unfortunately, the car is there to stay.

I like your B&W version, Stu. How did you achieve this?? Great picture of the River and Sears (I will never call it Willis) Tower! Just beautiful!
