Step up ring

So I have a circ. polarizing filter for my 28-135mm and I rarely use that lens. I'm wondering if I should get a step up ring so I can use it on my tamron 17-50mm. Are there any downsides to using step up ring? Any advice is appreciated!

(BTW, I'm praying to God right now that I don't sound like a fool and end up in the Blunder section )

Biggest downside will be that it'll interfere with the use of a hood, but many people find that lens hoods interfere with their adjusting the filter, too.

One downside is what the previous poster said. Not a big deal since I usually leave the hood off when using a polarizer.

The only other thing might be a small bit of inconvenience of actually using the stepup ring. Not a big deal. If you take both lenses out on a shoot and use the polarizer on the 17-50, then you might want another 72mm lens cap, unless you want to take off the filter everytime you put the lens cap back on.

if you mount the hood reversed for storage, just remember to take it off BEFORE mounting the step-up ring.

i need to grab something to put on the edge of my kenko ring to make it more grippy. i was working my circ polarizer off for like 5 minutes one time.

as always, thread it with patience and never overtighten. you'll go through hell getting it back off.
