Wow... I see the specs on that thing but I laugh when I see pictures of it. nonetheless, it looks like it will be a very nice camera (and probably quite cheap too)

It looks nice, but it is pretty expensive. It is priced nearly twice as much as a 450D costs here in Norway. Actually it costs the same as a 50D.

It has 100-3200 ISO expandable to 12800 and the same (?) sensor as the 50D. I wonder how the high iso pics will compare between the two.

It also records video in 1080p (although at 20 fps). 30fps is available for 720p video mode.

HD video in a midrange prosumer?! I want one!

Shame it can't to proper 1080p otherwise I would have considered it...

SX1 ... fullHD with 43 Mbps
500D ... fullHD with 20 fps

I think Canon didn't read basics about fullHD .... they forgot to think, they earn tooooo much money with ink cartridges ...

Not exactly, and dependent on how you define fullHD, there're 2 HD modes in the EOS 500D camera:

• 1920 x 1080 (1080P, 16:9) @ 20 fps
• 1280 x 720 (720P, 16:9) @ 30 fps

FYI - I've just opened the 500D blog and wiki over at http://planet500d.com (external link)

Haven't yet filled it with much data, tho I've gathered most of the major announcement blogs etc and some of the wiki has stuff cloned from the 5d wiki because they are similar.

• 1280 x 720 (720P, 16:9) @ 30 fps

Most people consider 1080p to be FullHD (or true HD) and that 720p to be HD ready.

Bleah! The other features are ok but this convergence of video and still imaging in cameras is not for me. I used to have a keen interest in videography some years back but now, I like to take pictures. So my next upgrade, I suspect that there'll be a chance that I'll be paying for an expensive feature I don't need or want. I wish Canon would make two lines - with vid and without.

Since when is the Rebel series considered "prosumer"?
