Hi All,

I haven't found much online regarding this, possibly because it's tough to google for.

Can someone detail the differences - any optical? - between the original Canon EF 80-200 4.5-5.6 and the Mk II version of same?

Nearly all the resources I've found online seem to refer to the 80-200 II.

Best,
Drew

There are actually three different versions of this lens. I would expect all of them to have the same optics. I also would expect them not to have very good image quality as they are low-end consumer lens.

As stated, they will have only minor differences. Optically the best you could expect is maybe a newer coating on the glass but I wouldn't bet on it.

I had one of these a ways back and have to say its a better lens than you'd expect. Everyone complains about the 75-300 lenses being crappy in the 200-300 range. Well here you go, its a 75-300 but smaller, lighter, cheaper, and only the decent part of its range available.

So sure, don't expect miracles, but it is a decent little travel lens.

Thanks for that! I grabbed a used Mk. I USM dirt cheap at KEH a little while ago, based on similar remarks about the common Mk. II - nothing fantastic but worth every bit of the money, and so forth.

Haven't had much opportunity to play with it in our dreary weather but was curious if optics were similar through the revisions.

Best,
Drew
