hey guys... just thought id share some clips taken at the airshow...

disclaimer - I went to shoot photos not video... wasnt planning to vid... didnt have a mono/tripod, had bad light, bad seating postion next to 2 people whilst wielding a 100-400 and a side note that the 100-400 sucks for smooth zooming while video...

so i share these as are... not to show my video skills or anything else but just if you like airshows and wanna see some hi def 5d2 video that i threw together... back out of the link and theres some photos too if you like...

pps - excuse the Top Gun music... damn it i just couldnt help myself haha

http://emotion.smugmug.com …423_bEgaL#511965378_ncKUi (external link)

click on the vid and then you can full hidef it if your screen supports otherwise hi def does the job for most.

enjoy - nicko!

cheers supa... its pretty amazing seeing something so big lift off with such a (seemingly) low rotation speed...

and the landing... what i missed on video was the end of it where it proceeded to go to full reverse thrust , stop then reverse down the runway... one of the few planes in the world that can reverse on its own steam... very cool indeed :)

Dude, that is an awesome video! I don't know if I would stray away from shooting pics of airshows, but, I can think of so many other times I'm out with my camera and wish I have a video cam with me. Thanks for posting that.

Any advice to help me view the video?
I only have wireless ISP (512k)
Trying to view the video on Smugmug is just the usual stop start streaming nightmare.
So I chose save video , thought I could download and watch. Full Hi Def file size said 165Mb , but it stopped at 53.1Mb.
File I got is 511965378_avalon2009final2.mp4.
Strange that the video won't play continuously , still behaves like streaming video with way too low bandwidth.
I have an Apple Cinema Display - 23inch 1920 x 1200 and have no problems displaying Aussie TV HD using HD TV tunercard.

Man, I really like the F-111 shots. That has always been one of my favorite aircraft. I used to work on the F-111A at Nellis.

I have to keep reminding myself that that quality of video comes out of a camera that's no different externally than the 5D Classic sitting next to me.

However, I beg you, get and use a quality fluid-head tripod for shooting moving objects with moving pictures ;) I very nearly got seasick at several points along the way.

I've got less than that! Just like youtube, start the video and then hit pause after it starts. You can see it buffer up on the slider bar. This is a very high quality video, so plan on it taking an hour or so to download (for me anyway). Once it is buffered completely, play it in awe. :o)

for its age... its impressive! that show was the last avalon airshow RAAF flight for the f-111 (sorry edited - had some incorrect info here )

Really? out of service now, or was that the last show it was in? I thought they would have waited till the superhornets got here....or have we got them already? If that's it for the pig, i'll really have to savour the last time I saw one. :(

That video looks amazing! oh, the pics aren't bad either!

sorry i should clarify... and dont quote me but i will find out - i think its the last RAAF F-111 appearance at the australian international air show - as in the raaf will no longer be flying them when the next show occurs in 2011

my mistake... and sorry about that... you still will see them but apparently not at avalon airshow flown by the RAAF - unless they are bought and maintained by a collector... if this is even allowed :)
