I have a question for whoever's interested. It's not really a question, I'm just asking for help.

I want to shoot for people. I want to shoot events. I like the satisfaction of shooting for people and knowing they like the photos and this is what's really making me ask these things, the second reason is because I want to get paid so that I can fund some new gear purchases because my part time job isn't enough for me and it's not related to photography at all. Even if I'm not getting paid much for one job, but I'm doing a few and it adds up. I've got a couple of bands that know me that I would shoot for but so many local bands just wait for free photos offered to them from fans with point and shoots taken at their gigs (or from the people who have a slow kit lens and think the effects that their slow shutter speeds create are cool). I don't know how open to assisting I am because I'm not that interested in shooting portraits and the like. I like shooting sports but who pays for sports photos when they're just playing in a local league? If I was up for it, it'd probably be so simple for me and it would solve my problems to find some models and shoot them but that's not my thing. Not right now anyway. So what options do I have out there?

It's all about who you know... event photography is a totally screwed-up if you want to get money out of it, most people will say they 'don't have a budget for photography'. It's ridiculous I know, I've been there done that.

Best way is to show examples to bands, and ask if they want more, for a fee. Results sells - and sex sells, too. :p

I've been bad today. I just ruined the auditory experience I'll have every time I listen to my ipod and its stock ear buds..

 You will never go back to those little buds. It doesn't how little room I have when I'm travelling, there's always room for good headphones.

On the topic of headphones, I got a set of Sennheiser MXL 560 earphones. I prefer the portability :)
I don't like canalphones so these seemed to be the best option.

Howdy all... On a completely side and unrelated to the current convesation........ I think I've finally got my hackintosh stable! :) wheeeee

Turned out it was some CPU settings in the BIOS that'd cause it to freeze/reboot itself...

Below is a 6 hour prime crunch (it's still going at home).

Once that's finished, I'll probably run a graphics test to make sure the graphics card is also stable.

It's based on the following:

Gigabyte GA-X58-UD5
Intel Core i7 920
ATI 4870HD Dual DVI w/ 1GB RAM
12GB DDR3 1600 RAM
Areca ARC-1222 8 port SAS/RAID HBA
4x1TB disks in RAID10

Everything is working now (QE and CI for video) and all AHCI ports on the mainboard. Hardware RAID booting from EFI partition using (currently) the voodoo 9.6.0 kernel and a full retail installation to the RAID pack.

Apparently the 9.6.3 vanilla kernel has been released which supports the Core i7, so I may try that as it's been reported to work :)

I was just flicking through the replay of the Carlton/Essendon match for a weekend and saw a guy in the front row with a Canon and a white lens  And then two kids jumped in his way and he got frustrated of course.

Kids in stadiums are the worst! Last Sydney FC match I was at I had these two little kids running up and down the stairs then leaning right infront of where I was shooting along the rails.

Ordered the V4 trigger set....hopefully it's going to be in next week

IS or not? The non-IS version is between $1100-1300 new and the IS version is around $1600-1900. I'd say $900 or $1400 depending on the model.

Here's some recently ended ones on ebay:
IS version sold for $1,550 (external link)
Non-IS sold for $811 (external link)
IS sold for $1,450 (external link)

I've ordered them too - delivery has been pushed back to May though. Did you order through Image Melbourne?

Could have bought new from D-D photo for $1685 = not a good buy (sure it'd be a grey import but Canon warranty is worldwide for L lenses)
