I don't do my own printing so I haven't had the chance to try it but I'm pretty sure that even if I did my own printing it wouldn't be directly from the camera.
So we have two of you to thank for the Direct Print button? Did you both fill out your online survey and check the radio button for "Direct Print" as being a key feature which drove your purchasing decision? :D

Surely Canon is aware that 90%+ of the buyers never use this button...
i'll bet at least 80% never use spot metering or the DOF preview either :D.

I used spot metering on my Olympus C2000z all the time. When I got my G6 and read about DPOF my immediate thought was to wonder who thought that the elaborate process to set up direct printing on a camera would be more accessible for people -- even on a compact P&S -- than using a computer.

Similarly I wonder how many people stick cards into printers with slots and print directly there. Mind you, the scan-the-checkboxes-on-the-index-print thing is darned clever but I've never seen a practical appeal in it.

As for 90% never using Direct Print -- if even 10% did use it that would be plenty of justification for the feature. I suspect that Canon's management is "old math" and really doesn't understand that almost anyone who's going to buy a digital camera today is going to have a computer -- and a large percentage of younger buyers will never make a print.

Do you have your 5DII set up for back-button focus? It annoys me on the 5D that when I do, the back button doesn't initiate AF if the back LCD is lit. I may change it back, because I'm sick of holding Direct Print to zoom in and out of images. Yes, I admit, I'm busy chimping when action starts to happen, and I have to press the shutter button to dismiss the LCD and then the back button for AF.

I use spot metering daily, and DoF preview occasionally. :)
