For less than $1000? I'd love to buy an L zoom, but I don't want to sell a kidney to get it. I thought I've seen some talk about a 70-200L for around $900 or so. Is there a new L out there in my price range? Thanks.

Kodak disposable, Ansco 35mm disk, Polaroid my parents gave me. That's about all I need really.

Not new and with IS, but you can get close with the 70-200 f/4L IS and the 24-105L IS. Both are a bit over $1000 new, but could be had used for under $1000...especially the 24-105, which goes anywhere from $800-900 used.

24-105 would be the most economical for you. 70-200 are above 1000 even used.

I don't think it would be hard to pick out a 24-105 or a 70-200 on the used market...

I am just curious, but why do you need IS? I personally don't use it and I wouldn't want to pay the extra $300 or so (for a new lens) just for the IS alone.

Look at B&H's used section, or what others here are selling, sometimes they have them there, and good prices for them. Other then that Ebay would be the option to get a used one for the $1,000 or less. New, as already stated above, the 24-105 f/4 IS and the 70-200 f/4 IS are slightly over what you are looking for.

Because for many people (me included), IS is invaluable. I often shoot in natural light, and at 200mm, I might require 1/40s shutter speeds, even at ISO 1600...and I can get sharp shots without a tripod with my 70-200 IS, but there'd be no way without IS.

That's fair enough.

In April of last year I paid £675 for a 100-400L that was (and is) in perfect condition. Manufactured in January 2006, it had been bought new only 6 months earlier.

You're really not doing your homework.
How hard is it to search B&H or Amazon?
