For this weeks Macro DSLR Speed Challenge #24 I chose the topic of "F/2.8" Try to submit your best macro photo but make sure you had the aperture at "f/2.8" If your macro lens doesn't give you f/2.8 ex. the 180mm f/3.5 then use the widest aperture your lens offers (ex.2 a 50mm f/1.8 with extension tubes, just close down the aperture to "f/2.8"). Multi photos combined don't count. I will judge the submissions on quality and inventiveness so have fun taking some F/2.8 macro photos :)

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR camera
2. Lens - Any lens, or attachment that can give Macro photos (ex. extension tubes, bellows, macro filters, reverse mounted lens and of course a true macro lens.).
3. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
4. Size - Please see the Image posting rules.
5. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
6. Posting -
* ONE MACRO PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.
* Photo Name/Title in the message.
* Camera model & lens used in the message.
* Post brief Exif data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used in the message.
* Notes - anything you feel you need to explain.
7. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
8. Questions - Use PM
9. Have FUN! :)

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:

* New Topic - After winner is declared.
* Posting Starts - Right after topic is announced.
* Posting Ends - 07:00 PM EST (Eastern) Monday, May 11, 2009. Winner will be announced shortly thereafter.
* Winner from this competition decides the theme of the next one (and judges it for a winner) after this competition is closed.

Ok now for the winners ;)

Third Place goes to "It makes me Bristle" by brecklundin
interesting colors and some inventiveness :)

Second Place goes to "Needle in a haystack" by monty28428
The color and smooth/soft out of focus area really make it.

First Place goes to: "2.8 at 2.8" by Mark001
Its razor sharp with some descent color and shows topic inventiveness.

Well done all!!
All the photos were great, and I chose the top three that showed the most F/2.8 inventiveness to my eyes :)

Mark001 as the winner you get to pick the next Macro DSLR Speed Challenge topic and vote the winner, please PM me with any questions on how to get it started :)

Congrats to Mark001!! Very nice crisp shot...

Monty, I LOVED your shot, where was that when we had the "Surreal" themed challenge!! Wonderful...

Lavenut, that is a great shot of an aphid. I tried some infesting my two rose bushes and, well, never did get a solid shot...nice work!

I think everyone posted some really fun shots...and I almost forgot this week...again...sigh... ;)

BTW, here is what my shot was really of...a toothbrush. One that I use to clean stuff around the house.

There really were some great shots this time. Nice selections, John! BTW, forcing us to shoot at 2.8 really makes you take your time and try to get everything just right... no fudging on DOF with that aperture.

I really had a hard time deciding on which to post. When I looked at the clock & saw it was 6:57 and it ended at 7, I had to pick something fast. Other contenders can be found here. If anyone wants to look & comment, I have another macro challenge to submit on another forum. ;)

brecklundin, thanks for the comment on the aphid shot. I think it was OK, but I did like the shadow. Cool toothbrush shot, BTW!
Angdvl089 - loved the nanoboard! Nice shot!
Mark0001 - nice take on the assignment and a nice photo! Congrats on the win!
Penny... it's great to see you back! I liked your butterfly!

One day, I hope to be able to shoot a photo as sharp as Mark001.

I just love the abstractness of brecklundin and monty28428. I think I need to have and abstract night. I gotta say though....when I saw the list of lens brecklundin used on that shot I was giggling like crazy.

Do you have a pic of the FrankenMacro Rig?
(Shot more butterflies tonight too. :D)
