I was kind of in the same situation this weekend. I went with the refurbished 40d from adorama. So i'd also vote for the 40d.

40D, Just bought one here on POTN and I love it over the XTI!

If you are planning to go FF in the future, I'd say get a glass first and wait for 5DII price to come down (or get a used 5D)

Thank you all for the great input. Unfortunately I only took half of your advise. Unfortunate for my bank account anyway. I took the plunge and went with both. Just ordered from B&H, they will be on my doorstep Wednesday.
