Well this sucks. Here are the prices now w/o rebate. B&H and Adorama both have gone up for the most part.

16-35 1499 (up)
70-200 f2.8is 1799 (up)
70-200 f4is 1100 (unchanged)
24-70 1270 (up)
85 1.2 1860 (down)
50 1.2 1450 (up)

Yikes I just paid 1110.00 for my 24-70 bought it around noon today, it went up to 1190.00 after rebate!

Before blaming all this on the retailers themselves, you may want to read this article:

If you were buying an imported car, would you let the dealer raise the sales price so that they could collect the consumer rebate? If not, (and I know it's a "NO") then why is it ok for Canon's dealers to do it? Sure, markets changed, but I sure don't feel sorry for them or accept their taking MY CASH.

i skimmed it...but I'm guessing the jist of it is due to shortage? If that's really the case, why has it happened over the last few years that it's timely around the rebates?

Frustrating, isn't it? I've been waiting at least one month for B&H to restock the 50 1.2. I check daily just in case. Yesterday the price was $1300 (with the $100 rebate). Today, $1350, and it's STILL back-ordered. WT?!
Again....very frustrating.

Canon EF-S 10-22 went up $40 today at B&H. Had been $710 for a while and when the rebates started it was 710 - 50 = 660. Now it it is 749.95 - 50 = 699.95.

WOW a big $10.05 down from yesterdays list price! And I was going to buy one, well I can wait now.

Is it too early to start talking about the next Canon rebates hahah. Wonder if I should just wait. I was hoping to have the 70-200 2.8 IS in my gold box for $1424 Now even if it is in my gold box it will still be $1519 or something. LAME!

That's a very general statement. Where has it happened and how often? If you follow the thread on FM, Henry from B&H confirmed that it happened once, and it was a human glitch that was corrected. There was NO further evidence provided that it happened "over the last few years."

I'm guessing what is happening at the major retailers like B&H is this pent up rush/demand for all the popular lenses once the rebate started. That in conjunction with the limited supply for those lenses could easily account for the recent price increase.

Really, if everyone stopped buying the popular lenses because of the price increase, or bought somewhere else, I would venture to guess that the price would come down, barring a price increase from Canon themselves. Besides, the rebate lasts till July 11, and we haven't even gone a week since it started!

Note that no one is talking about the price decrease of the 85 f1.2L at B&H. This is not a conspiracy--it's just free market economics at work.

P.S. Please read the whole article to get a sense for what's happening.

It's still $660 at Canoga Camera with free shipping.

Wow, that stinks. I didn't think B&H would raise their prices like that. I'm glad I was decisive enough to order my 16-35 when the price was still $1450 or $1350 after rebate. If they had done this when the rebates first started I would not have purchased that lens. As it is they still got my business but to raise prices when a rebate is offered is shady business practice IMHO.

It is curious that BOTH B&H and Adorama, probably two of the largest online photography retailers, raised their prices in tandem. Can you say "price collusion?"

it happened a couple of years ago with the canon instant rebates. BH management came out with a couple different stories and eventually reduced the prices.

deja vu all over again. or as gomer pyle would say: "suprize, suprize, suprize" :D.
