Has anyone actually had good luck with Craigslist?

I suppose its partly because I'm in a smaller market but I seem to see only entry level lenses on Craigslist. Is that pretty common? Is the higher end stuff being sold elsewhere?

Here in Detroit, there is almost always good stuff for sale. A 1D MK II just showed up today. I got my Metz 58-af flash and Sekonic L-358 off CragsList. The guy who I got the flash from was also selling a 24-105 L.

In Seattle there's tons of good stuff. It's easy to find entry level stuff and pro gear. At really good prices too :]

My relationship with Canon began with the purchase of the 20D and the 18-55mm II and 75-300mm off of Craigslist for $650.

I've had some luck on craigslist. Though, before I meet up with the person, I make sure the seller is legit.

Thanks, I'll keep my eyes open and make sure I see any item before I buy.

I've had better luck selling than buying since I'm also in a smaller city. Mostly see Rebels and entry-level lenses. There are a lot of photographers here, so I'm guessing most are selling their stuff on forums.

My 20D was purchased for $300 and was in great condition... A few days afterwards I ran across another ad and snatched up an 18-55IS and 55-250IS for $225... The deals are out there, just make sure you know what you're looking at! (Or my my noob case, ask here first to make sure it's a good deal!)

http://www.clgenie.com (external link) will be your best friend, find out about all the listings when they happen!

I've sold some gear on CL and made friends from the sale of that gear. I picked up a 100mm Macro for far cheaper than market on my local craigslist as well.

Craigslist has been good to me thus far. However, I have been receiving e-mails from scamming buyers, so be careful.

Cordially,
Ben

I'm using CLGenie. How do you structure your search? Lets say I'm looking for any lenses for a Canon (but not necessarily Canon brand, could be a Sigma). Would you setup multiple searches?
