Not a transportation shooter at all.. While out in the wetlands near the Los Alamitos Naval Air Station, this flew over.

B-24 Liberator I think. Great shot.

That's correct it is a B-24 Liberator.

There is writing all over the body, listing and honoring past crew members
There are also a couple of guys looking out the back part of the body

Belongs to the Collings Foundation. Tours all over the US, along with a B17, B25, and sometimes a P51B. They give rides (for a fee) at almost all of their stops. The only other flying B24 is a B24A that belongs to the CAF, based out of Cavanaugh Flight Musuem in Addison, Texas (just north of Dallas).

Nice grab. Bet it sounded real nice; those four big radials.

Thanks everyone, it's nice to have some background on the plane. I sort of figured that it was a touring machine as it was really done up ... and yes, it was very distinctive in its' sound.

wow that's pretty darn cool.

It's a shame that there are only two left flying. What unit markings is this one wearing?

According to this website, it would appear to be a mix of 466th Bomb Group and 467th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force.

They've got the understroked "M" but in a white slash instead of a horizontal white stripe.

(For those who may not know, this same B-24 was also known as "All American" and also "The Dragon and His Tail" .. a very popular paint scheme!)
