Service is excellent...one of the major reasons I stick with Canon.

I think you guys get great service from Irvine and NJ. We get the sharp end of the stick up here in the Great White North.

Bad service and unacceptable repairs

Mine is on it's way to NJ - hope it comes back quicker than the quote 10-12 business days. Also hope they clean the focusing screen.

Gear: Kodak Brownie and homemade pin-hole cameras. Burlap sack for a bag.

I want to thank the original poster of this thread. I had not heard of any issues until now. I just called Canon and told them I did NOT have the issue but that I wanted to sell my camera and would prefer to tell the buyer that the procedure had been completed. And..... actually this is a way to get a free sensor cleaning, LOL.

By the way, the customer service rep told me that even if I were to sell the 5D without the repair, that Canon would stand behind the product. So, for those of you who own a used 5D, no worries.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I sent mine in sometime last week and as soon as I got the statement via email that they received my camera, they said I would receive it back within 7 days. The 11th they received, the 12th they repaired and shipped, and I am supposed to have it by tomorrow says the tracking number.

I sent it to Irvine, CA and am in Houston, TX.

Super impressed with Canon NJ.

I bought my 5D used. Definitely needed a sensor cleaning, and the original owner had yet to send it in for the mirror fix, so I decided to go ahead and send it in.

Sent it Monday and received it back on Friday (it actually came back on the same day that I received a letter from Canon stating that it had been accepted for repairs!)

When it came back, not only was the mirror fixed and the sensor clean, but they replaced the LCD screen (which had a small scratch on it) and the focusing screen (not sure what was wrong with that!) for free, too.

Top of the line service. I could never imagine switching to the darkside now...

Just to be sure...you call the service center for the free shipping label, yes?
Also guys, did they ask for the serial number of the camera when you called them? Is that on the box itself or is that number on the bottom of the camera?

Thanks.

Excellent service by the Irvine center. very happy :)

Apart from the mirror fixing task, they upgraded my camera's firmware to 1.1.1 / cleaned my sensor / even cleaned the viewfinder / focusing screen [I had 2 small specks of dust which was visible through the viewfinder and they are gone now].

Yes you will get the free shipping label in email once you call them. AND, you should provide them the serial # from the bottom of the camera. This fix is irrespective of your camera being in warranty or out of warranty

If the mirror hasn't been fixed you can. If you give the serial number to the service rep they can check. It's a Recall so you don't need to be the original owner.
