This lens keeps amazing me. I had not used it in a few months and wanted to see if it still produced images as I remembered. This one was taken in bright sunlight at 2.8 on a 40D. The bird was approximately 40 feet from me and I was still able to get a thin sliver for my DOF.

The bird is entering the bokeh area of the photograph. The place where it just sat is still clear.

Just so you're aware of it (and so that newbies can learn), your use of the term "bokeh" in the above post was mis-applied. Bokeh does not mean "out-of-focus area of an image".

Bokeh is a term that is used to refer to the non-definable quality of an out-of-focus area in an image.

Hmm, yea, the quality of the "blur." :)

Flavor of the blur. That's the definition I use.
