I just LOVE my Zeiss 85 Sonnar. Honestly, every time I use it it blows me away. It truly has no flaws for what it is (obviously, it could be faster and have AF, but within the realm of what it does, it's honestly quite close to perfect.) 100% crop: Lord it makes me tingle almost, how good this lens is. Making a 2.8 with great IQ is easier done with fewer compromises and at much higher tolerances than say a 2.0 or 1.4...faster is brighter with less DoF for focusing that pops in and out (though the lack of DoF makes the focus that more critical), but wider is really rarely ever better when it comes to IQ... I am pretty impressed with my in-focus rate, maybe 2/3, although I shoot a few less per "session" without AF. The Helios 44 is a pretty good lens, though, and the color is just awesome: Taylor

I just got into MF lenses and am already seeing limitations w/my 350D. Manual focusing on a 350D can be tricky. I can't shoot at the beach. For some reason, I attract beach bums and their Geiger counters.

Yeah, MF can be tricky, but I have been surprised how much easier it is getting with practice. I have a 1000D, so the veiwfinder is no better - I do have liveview, though. Even with the larger cameras it is still tough to discern fine detail with modern viewfinders. Many people end up with special focusing screens. Unfortunately there are a lot of drawbacks with using them on the rebels (mainly no AF point markings/lights anymore). Yeah, I am familiar w/the Katzeye and Haoda products, but like you mentioned there are a lot of drawbacks. I can't shoot at the beach. For some reason, I attract beach bums and their Geiger counters.
