Quick shot of my son. It's hard to get accurate focus on a toddler when near by and using f/1.4; but when it works, I really like the look of this lens.

hi everyone, i just got this lens from my friend few days ago, i discovered there were some slightly grinding and screeching sounds compared with my 1740L and 70200IS, especially when is it in the dark place, while searching the focusing point. obviously noisier than USM. is it the normal sound with HSM? or it is too "silent" on USM? anyone can help?

No, you shouldn't hear any grinding. The only noise should be from the rotation of the lens - anything else and you should have it checked.

i used to have USM lens, this is the first time for me to have SIGMA lens, when normal focus, the sound is louder than USM lens, is it correct?

I wouldn't characterize the sound as in any way "screeching." It sounds to me like your lens has a defect. I would send it in to get replaced.

Sorry! I just saw that you got it from a friend!

Still, if the noise is irritating enough or you see that it affects performance, send it in to get fixed.

it's hard to explain it, actually is not too loud, but i compared with my friend's 24-70 HSM, his is real quiet, both are same HSM? right? So, just wanna see is SIGMA 50.4's problem or is mine problem.

There is no audible difference between my Sigma 50mm f/1.4 and my Sigma 24-70 /f2.8 HSM. It sounds (pun intended) like your 50mm has a problem.

Bokeh created by this magical lens is sometimes much more interesting, than a foreground, indeed! ;)

Just ordered one from BH! I am crossing my fingers that there are no focusing issues on my 5d. It will be like winning the lottery. Will post some samples this weekend.
