It's still hard to believe these prices. I got my Canon 580 EX II a couple of months after they came out for $340 w/ free shipping. (the good ol' days)

My experience with Abe's of Maine: A couple months ago I purchased a 50D w/USA warranty + Canon BP-511A battery. Upon placing the order they sent an email confirming the order. Then they sent a followup email saying they will call to confirm the order. I responded that I do not confirm orders and to cancel the order. They then sent an email indicating the order was shipped - a 50D w/USA warranty + Vidpro ACD-674 battery. They switched the original order for a Canon battery with a third party battery!! Not cool. When the pkg was received I returned the battery for credit but was not credited for the return shipping cost.

Yea, stories like yours was what made me apprehensive and nervous right after pressing the order button. I believe I got three emails from them even before they shipped my flash. I'd consider myself lucky that all went well, and I got the flash in new and good working condition. While waiting for the flash shipment, though, I read enough negative experiences in the resellerratings.com that I'd probably avoid ordering any more from them in the future. I'd rather pay a bit more and go with those trust-worthy companies that I've been relying on for the past 5 years.

My transaction went smoothly. I used the flash this evening and everything was just fine. I am getting e-mail spam from them however. Still a good price. Thanks OP.

i also got mine for that $340 early last year from beach camera... considering how the economy is right now, $20 more for $360 is not that bad.

By following the Amazon 5% off advice in this thread, I just now saw the 580 EX II offered to me at $357.82 as a quick pick. Too bad I don't need another.

So what is the regular price of the 580EX II (during non-rebate times)?

$400ish at most places on line, then in stores, hitting the $500 mark.

Um what is up with this? yhst-3861662**66226.stores.yahoo.net/dbsl-580exii.html (I broke the link, no reason to go to it per my edit below $280.00  Just has to be another one "of those on line bad guys", right? EDIT... Did some checking, yep another scammer, as I thought, it just had to be.

Yes, I edit my post above I guess at the same time you did your post (but you more or less got that edit in your quote).

I think both Adorama and B&H were at $420.00.

So how did someone purchase the 580EX II for $340.00? Is there a better time to buy? I just don't want to miss the canon rebates unless there is a better time/place to buy.
