Yes it can be a little soft at the long end. But at this price point it's hard to complain. Especially in order to get a much sharper photo at over 250mm you are looking at 3 or more times the price!

Yes I like the value one gets for this little gem, just like the nifty fifty. I like carrying it whenever I go hiking compared to the 70-200 f4 L. Of course there is no comparison in quality but for landscapes and your endurance it is a very good bargain.

That dove shot might be the finest shot I have seen with this nifty leetle lense so far...amazing!

The bunny is nice but something about the background seems distracting to me...that dove though, even just sitting on the cable, it's something I would put on the wall. THANKS for posting it so we can all see it is possible! hehehe....

I finally get to post in this thread! Ordered the 250 Monday, got here about a half hour ago. Took some quick snaps up at the pond in the middle of the community. Man I'm excited! Lot to learn. It's was getting to be the late evening and is an extremely cloudy day (figures... Arizona...), and my photography skills do not do it justice.

Here's one wide open at 250mm. Stopped down, it gets even better, but it is a pretty cloudy day here. Using the center af point only, I think I got her right in the center of her back. Still, I think this lens is pretty sharp, even wide open, at least my copy seems to be.

Sometimes I get some great shots out of this lens.

Other times it frustrates the hell out of me with it's sluggishness and occasional softness at the long end. Mind you the fella below was MILES away. Huge crop and post processing lol.

I know I said I should not complain at this price point *mumble grumble* :)

May as well add another.

There is pretty much no lens that is going to hold up to a full crop and still look like you didn't crop.

Rented 70-200 L 2.8 lens (non-IS) and tried it for the last couple of days with 2X Canon teleconverter and without. Supposed to be much better lens than the 250, right? After taking about a 1000 shots with 70-200 I am glad I have 55-250. There was absolutely nothing special about 70-200 results. I expected USM focusing faster than that of my other lenses, 17-85 and 28-135. I did not see the difference between focusing speed. I guess my expectations were too high. And the weight of that thing, at first it is no problem, but after carrying it for 2 hours it gets heavy. 55-250 is very very light. And only 20% of the price.
